A Guatemalan man residing in Medford has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Boston for allegedly reentering the United States illegally after deportation. Christian Estuardo Sanchez, 41, faces one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien and is scheduled to appear in federal court in Boston at a later date.

According to the indictment, Sanchez was deported from the United States on September 14, 2010. It is alleged that he returned to the U.S. without permission sometime after his removal. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Sanchez on January 27, 2025.

The charge of unlawful reentry carries a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Following any imposed sentence, the defendant will be subject to deportation. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and statutes governing criminal case sentencing.

United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston announced the indictment. Assistant U.S. Attorney Allegra Flamm from the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.

It should be noted that all details within the charging documents are allegations at this stage; Sanchez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
