A man from Orange Park has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for firearm possession by a convicted felon. Senior United States District Judge Brian J. Davis handed down the sentence to 25-year-old D’eante Corker after he was found guilty on November 26, 2024, following a bench trial.

Court documents reveal that on March 27, 2024, Corker was stopped by a deputy from the Clay County Sheriff’s Office during a traffic stop. A canine officer at the scene detected narcotics in Corker's vehicle, prompting a search. A loaded Smith & Wesson pistol was discovered under the hood of the vehicle. Corker admitted his awareness of the firearm and acknowledged that as a convicted felon, he could not lawfully possess firearms.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney John Cannizzaro.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, a violent crime reduction strategy was launched to enhance PSN's effectiveness by fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting preventive community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
