Attorney General Mayes Announces Two Defendants Sentenced in ESA Fraud Case

Attorney General Kris Mayes announced the sentencing of two defendants in an Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) Program fraud case. Jadakah Johnson, 21, and Raymond Johnson Jr., 20, of Phoenix unlawfully received ESA funds, even though they were not properly eligible to receive those funds and had reason to know the funds were proceeds of a fraud scheme or theft.

On January 17, 2025, both Johnsons pleaded guilty to Facilitation to Commit Money Laundering. On February 13, 2025, the Johnsons were each sentenced to three years’ supervised probation and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $196,526.33.
