Enrique Diaz-Perez, a 38-year-old Guatemalan national, has been sentenced to 14 months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States. The sentence was announced by Acting United States Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Thomas P. Brophy, Field Office Director of U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations in Buffalo, New York.
Diaz-Perez had previously admitted to being removed from the United States in 2009 after a conviction in Massachusetts for assault with a dangerous weapon. He was again deported in February 2024 following another conviction for illegal reentry in federal court in Syracuse. In August 2024, he was found and arrested in Syracuse while working in Little Falls, New York. After serving his sentence, Diaz-Perez will face deportation once more.
In addition to the 14-month sentence for illegal reentry, Diaz-Perez received an additional four-month consecutive term for violating the conditions of his supervised release related to his prior offense.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-ICE-ERO and prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul Tuck.
