Rodrigo Marrufo-Pineda, a 34-year-old from Zitacuaro, Michoacan, Mexico, has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. The sentencing took place on February 14, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. presided over the case.
Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen announced the sentence and noted that after serving his prison term, Marrufo-Pineda will face deportation to Mexico due to his non-citizen status in the United States.
Marrufo-Pineda's charges stemmed from his role as a local courier for a Mexican source of supply (SOS) that distributed methamphetamine in Nebraska and Iowa, specifically targeting areas like Omaha and Council Bluffs. On January 25, 2024, special agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employed a cooperating witness who successfully purchased about one pound of methamphetamine from Marrufo-Pineda at an Omaha location.
Following his arrest, Marrufo-Pineda admitted in a post-arrest statement to distributing pound quantities of methamphetamine within the Omaha area. The investigation leading to his arrest was conducted by the FBI and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
