California Attorney General Rob Bonta has announced the arrest and filing of felony charges against a suspect accused of operating an illegal assault weapon manufacturing operation from his garage in Roseville. The investigation, which led to the seizure of numerous rifles, large capacity magazines, and ammunition, began when the suspect was found attempting to sell assault weapons at the Placerville Gun Show.
Felony charges have been filed by the Department of Justice's Criminal Division for manufacturing assault weapons for sale, possession of assault weapons, and possession of a silencer. "As California’s chief law enforcement officer, protecting public safety and our communities from the threat of gun violence is my top priority," said Attorney General Bonta. He emphasized that firearm regulations are essential for ensuring safety in California and commended Field Representatives and Special Agents for their efforts in preventing gun violence.
The case unfolded on November 3, 2024, when Field Representatives from the Bureau of Firearms Regulatory Compliance Unit conducted a regulatory inspection at the Placerville Gun Show. During this inspection, they overheard a trader attempting to sell a silencer. Upon examining his firearms, two illegal assault weapons were discovered for sale. This prompted Special Agents to initiate an investigation.
On November 12, 2024, with assistance from the Roseville Police Department SWAT team, Special Agents executed a search warrant at the suspect's residence. They seized eight illegal assault rifles and a silencer along with various other firearms and parts.
It is important to note that criminal charges must be proven in court. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
