Holland & Knight has welcomed healthcare and life sciences attorney Dianne Bourque as a partner in Boston. She advises healthcare industry clients on a broad range of issues, including patient privacy, clinical research and life sciences regulatory compliance issues. Ms. Bourque was previously a partner with Mintz.

As a former in-house counsel at Lahey Clinic, a large part of her practice involves counseling researchers and research sponsors in matters related to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) regulated clinical research, including patient consent, access to and use of tissue and associated patient information, and the Institutional Review Board (IRB) process. In addition, she advises clients on healthcare data acquisition and use, digital health applications, and risk management and patient care matters.

Ms. Bourque also counsels healthcare clients and other business entities on privacy and data security issues, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule and Security Standards. She has successfully defended clients in both civil and criminal HIPAA enforcement actions and aids clients with the management of data breaches and other losses of protected health information.

"In this rapidly changing healthcare regulatory landscape, it's important for our clients to have the necessary resources at their fingertips. Dianne's combined experience with clinical research and health information privacy issues will be invaluable to our clients as they navigate compliance challenges," said Jeffrey Mittleman, co-leader of Holland & Knight's Healthcare Regulatory & Enforcement Practice Group. "She has a stellar reputation in the Boston healthcare community as well as nationally, and her deep industry experience makes her a great asset to the Firm."

"Holland & Knight's impressive and incredibly diverse national healthcare group is a great fit for me and an excellent place to grow my practice," Ms. Bourque said. "I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to provide the best counsel possible to healthcare clients in the critical areas of clinical research, HIPAA and privacy matters."

Ms. Bourque is a regular guest lecturer for Boston College's Master of Science in Cybersecurity, Policy and Governance program and is consistently recognized as a leading healthcare attorney in Massachusetts by Chambers USA.

She received a combined J.D. and Master of Public Administration degree from Suffolk University Law School with a Health and Biomedical Law concentration, and a B.A. degree from Boston College.

Holland & Knight's Healthcare & Life Sciences Industry Group, a cross-disciplinary team of more than 400 experienced attorneys, is the largest healthcare law practice in the United States, according to Modern Healthcare. The firm's healthcare attorneys advise on matters ranging from business, regulatory compliance and real estate to litigation, government enforcement and public policy issues.
