McGuireWoods — a top law firm in the renewables industry — served as lead counsel to Sol Systems in the $345 million financing of the historic Tilden Solar project, a 182-megawatt solar facility in Randolph County, Illinois. The project will transform a 1,050-acre subsurface mine site into a renewable energy asset that will produce enough clean energy to power approximately 33,800 Illinois homes annually.
McGuireWoods lawyers from multiple practices and offices advised Sol Systems on construction financing and tax equity financing for the project. Partner Evelyn Kim led firm’s construction financing team and partner Durham McCormick led the team advising on tax equity financing.
“We were proud to assist Sol Systems in advancing this innovative clean energy project that will have tangible benefits for the community,” said McGuireWoods partner Brian Kelly, who leads the firm’s energy industry team and headed the legal team representing Sol Systems.
McGuireWoods represents developers, utilities, independent power producers and infrastructure funds across sectors such as biomass and alternative fuels, geothermal, hydropower, battery storage, solar and wind. The firm handles renewable energy projects across the country, counseling clients on development, finance, ownership, operation and maintenance issues, among others.
Sol Systems is a national clean energy firm focused on building domestic energy that benefits local communities. The company is operating, building and managing over 7 gigawatts of projects across 38 states for Fortune 500 companies, municipalities, utilities, schools and more than 40,000 U.S. customers.
