Attorney General Dave Sunday has announced charges against a York County couple, Ashlee and Brian Brady, both 32, from Hanover. The charges include neglect and financial exploitation of an elderly woman, who is Ashlee's mother. The couple allegedly left the victim in a basement while they went on vacation.
The charges against them include financial exploitation of an older adult or care-dependent person, theft by deception, neglect of a care-dependent person, and conspiracy to commit these crimes. Ashlee Brady faces additional charges of perjury and intimidation of a witness. Brian Brady is charged with Medicaid fraud.
“These alleged acts are truly disturbing on many levels — as these defendants were not only family, her own daughter and son-in-law, they were paid to look out for this victim’s best interests,” said Attorney General Sunday. “I commend the investigators who uncovered this cycle of abusive and exploitative conduct. My office will continue to stand up for Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable residents.”
In February 2024, the victim was discovered alone in her basement by Emergency Medical Services after a relative called for help. She was found soiled behind a dog gate with limited food and water.
Investigations revealed that the Bradys used over $10,000 from the victim's finances for personal expenses unrelated to her care. Additionally, Brian allegedly submitted false claims for Medicaid reimbursement through his employer.
Ashlee Brady reportedly lied under oath about making arrangements for someone else to care for the victim during their absence.
The preliminary hearing is set for March 27. Senior Deputy Attorney General Christopher R. Sherwood will prosecute the case. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
