Registration is now open for the Initial Certification Training for parenting investigators and guardians ad litem. The workshop is scheduled to take place from June 3 to June 5 in Bismarck.
A guardian ad litem acts as an advocate for a child's best interests in cases such as annulments, divorces, legal separations, or other actions affecting marriage when there are concerns about the future of minor children. To serve as a guardian ad litem, one must be a licensed attorney.
In situations where there is a dispute over parenting time or parental rights and responsibilities, a court assigns a parenting investigator. This role involves gathering family-related facts to aid judges in making informed decisions regarding the children involved.
