A Lexington man, Adam Pursifull, aged 40, has been sentenced to 124 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves for possessing a firearm as a prohibited person. The sentence was handed down on Friday.
Pursifull's arrest occurred on April 23, 2024, following information received by law enforcement regarding an outstanding parole warrant. During the arrest and subsequent search, officers found a loaded firearm in his possession. Pursifull was previously convicted of trafficking in a controlled substance first degree by the Fayette Circuit Court in May 2014 and was barred from owning firearms.
Under federal regulations, Pursifull is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. Following his release, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years.
The announcement of the sentencing was made jointly by Paul McCaffrey, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; AJ Gibes, Acting Special Agent in Charge at ATF’s Louisville Field Division; Jeremy Honaker, Acting U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Kentucky; and Commissioner Cookie Crews from the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
The case investigation was carried out by the ATF, U.S. Marshal’s Service, and the Kentucky Department of Corrections. Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia Rieker led the prosecution for this case.
This case falls under the Department of Justice's "Project Safe Neighborhoods" Program (PSN), a nationwide initiative focused on reducing violent crime through comprehensive public safety strategies including crime investigation and prosecution as well as prevention and reentry efforts. In the Eastern District of Kentucky, these efforts are coordinated by Acting U.S. Attorney McCaffrey alongside various federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
