Marc H. Silverman, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced that a New Haven resident has admitted guilt in a narcotics trafficking case. Joshuwah Diaz, 34, pleaded guilty to the charges on February 10 before U.S. District Judge Vernon D. Oliver in Hartford.
The arrest occurred on February 16, 2024, when authorities executed a search warrant at Diaz's apartment on Orange Street in New Haven. The search uncovered approximately 75 grams of fentanyl, 278 grams of cocaine, 47 grams of crack cocaine, and a loaded P80 handgun lacking a serial number.
Diaz has confessed to possession with intent to distribute cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl. This charge could result in up to 20 years of imprisonment. Sentencing is set for May 7 by Judge Oliver.
Currently released on a $50,000 bond until sentencing, Diaz previously faced legal consequences in April 2013 when he received a sentence of 78 months for distributing heroin.
The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration New Haven Task Force. This task force includes members from various agencies such as the DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Internal Revenue Service – Criminal Investigation Division, Connecticut State Police, and multiple local police departments including those from New Haven and neighboring areas.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan Keefe is prosecuting the case.
