North Dakota Courts have issued a warning about scams targeting potential jurors. Scammers are contacting individuals, claiming they failed to appear for jury service. Some of these scammers impersonate law enforcement agencies and threaten arrest if court fines are not paid.

According to the courts, "State courts or local law enforcement agencies will never call and threaten an individual or demand immediate payment—either over the telephone or money wire service—for fines or for not responding to a jury summons."

The public is advised to be cautious of any caller demanding immediate payment of alleged court fines or threatening arrest. To verify such claims, individuals should hang up and contact the Clerk of Court’s office directly.

In case of receiving such calls, people are urged not to give out credit card information or make payments. They should also refrain from sharing personal information like social security numbers and report the call to their local law enforcement agency.
