A Hudson County man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing child sexual abuse material, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna. Jonathan Lattif, 46, from Jersey City, New Jersey, had previously pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of child pornography before U.S. District Judge Claire C. Cecchi.
The sentence was imposed by Judge Cecchi in Newark federal court following Lattif's admission of guilt. According to court documents and statements made during the proceedings, on March 18, 2022, Lattif was found with videos depicting the sexual abuse of minors on his mobile device. The materials included over 500 video files and one photograph involving prepubescent children.
Lattif's criminal history includes a prior state conviction for possession of child pornography. In addition to the prison term, he will undergo 10 years of supervised release after serving his sentence.
The investigation leading to Lattif's charges involved special agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Homeland Security Investigations under Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel in Newark. Customs and Border Protection Officers from the Port of New York/Newark also played a role under Acting Port Director Jeffrey Greene.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Fatime Meka Cano from the Economic Crimes Unit in Newark represented the government in this case.
