U.S. District Judge Kenneth D. Bell has sentenced Shakor Daniels, a 26-year-old resident of Charlotte, to 37 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence is for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and the transfer of a machinegun, as announced by Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.
Bennie Mims, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Charlotte Field Division, joined U.S. Attorney King in making the announcement.
Court documents reveal that on June 13, 2023, law enforcement stopped Daniels's vehicle due to a traffic violation and discovered two firearms inside. Daniels admitted to possessing one firearm for protection.
Further investigations showed that in fall 2023, Daniels was advertising Glock switches for sale on his social media account with the tagline “Go fed or go home.” A Glock switch is an illegal device that converts a semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic weapon. Undercover ATF agents purchased several items from Daniels during this period including Glock switches for handguns and rifles and a 45-round drum magazine.
On January 14, 2024, Daniels sent an image of a handgun he intended to sell to an undercover ATF agent who agreed to meet him for purchase. Daniels was arrested on January 16 when he arrived at the meeting location with the firearm.
Daniels has prior criminal convictions which prohibit him from possessing firearms. He remains in federal custody awaiting transfer to the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a facility.
The case was investigated by the ATF with assistance from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte.
