A Providence man has pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to fentanyl trafficking. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha, who stated that Montrell Dennis, 34, admitted to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
The investigation into Dennis was conducted by the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. According to court documents and evidence presented, a search of Dennis's residence in Providence on May 3, 2024, uncovered plastic baggies containing fentanyl and other drugs. Toxicology reports confirmed the presence of 29.4 grams of a mixture including fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, and xylazine, as well as 1.37 grams of crack cocaine. Authorities also seized digital scales, smartphones, and two firearms during the operation.
Dennis has been detained since his arrest on May 3, 2025. He is scheduled for sentencing on April 22, 2025. The sentence will be determined by a federal district judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal considerations.
