United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Dre’Shaun Burns, 31, from Omaha, Nebraska, has been sentenced in federal court for drug-related offenses. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down a sentence of 168 months' imprisonment to Burns on January 30, 2025. Following his prison term, Burns will undergo five years of supervised release.

Burns was convicted for conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. Between April 2020 and June 2022, he sold fentanyl analogue to confidential informants more than twelve times.

The investigation reached its peak on June 16, 2022, when law enforcement executed a search warrant at the residence of Burns's mother in Omaha. During the search, authorities found 371 grams of fentanyl analogue near two firearms. The drugs and firearms were linked to Burns through DNA evidence.
