Attorney General Gentner Drummond expressed approval for the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board's decision to deny clemency to Wendell Arden Grissom. In 2005, Grissom was involved in a home invasion in Blaine County, where he shot and killed Amber Dawn Matthews while she was holding a child.
Drummond stated, "Amber died at the hands of a cruel and evil man. Today, however, his fate is sealed with the denial of clemency. I am grateful to the Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board for this decision." He emphasized the importance of justice in protecting community safety: "In a state where we cherish the sanctity of our homes and the safety of our loved ones, justice demands nothing less than the ultimate price for those who violently tear apart the very fabric of our community."
Grissom's execution is set for March 20.
