On January 28, a federal jury found Otis Furman Crabbe, III guilty of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The 54-year-old man from Jensen Beach was stopped by law enforcement officers on June 14, 2023, due to the dark window tinting on his white Mercedes Benz sedan in downtown Stuart, Florida. Crabbe explained to the officers that he was partially blind and required the dark tinting because of light sensitivity. A canine inspection led to the discovery of a suitcase in his trunk containing approximately 80 grams of methamphetamine.

Crabbe is scheduled for sentencing on April 17 at 11:30 a.m., where he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years up to life in prison.

The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida, Acting Special Agent in Charge Jose R. Figueroa of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Miami Field Division, and Sheriff John Budensiek of the Martin County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

The investigation was conducted by HSI's Fort Pierce Field Office and MCSO. Assistant U.S. Attorney Breezye Telfair prosecuted the case.
