Attorney General Dave Sunday has announced charges against Scott Liebowitz, a firearms dealer from Bucks County. Liebowitz is accused of illegally transferring two guns to Nicholas Mimoso, a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Liebowitz, 31, hails from Feasterville-Trevose and holds a Federal Firearms License. He faces charges including two counts of Violation of the Uniform Firearms Act (VUFA) for illegally transferring a firearm, conspiracy, corrupt organizations, and unlawful use of a communication facility.
The investigation by the Attorney General’s Philadelphia Gun Violence Task Force revealed that Liebowitz sold two handguns to Mimoso. Mimoso faces the same charges and was previously charged with drug and firearms trafficking last year.
According to the criminal complaint, Liebowitz and Mimoso conspired to purchase firearms using a third party as the documented buyer. Liebowitz then physically transferred the guns to Mimoso.
“This is another example of the excellent collaborative work being done by our Philadelphia Gun Violence Task Force,” said Attorney General Sunday. “In the past year, the Gun Violence Task Force has seized hundreds of illegally possessed and transferred firearms.”
Both individuals were charged and arraigned late last week. Liebowitz's bail was set at $100,000 while Mimoso's bail was set at $275,000; he remains incarcerated.
Mimoso had been charged in March 2024 with various crimes related to drug and firearms trafficking. Investigators recovered 11 firearms and two illegal switches in that case.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Maggie Hayes-Oberst from the Office of Attorney General Gun Violence Task Force is prosecuting these cases. It should be noted that criminal charges are allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
