A Bangor woman has been sentenced in U.S. District Court for her involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy involving methamphetamine and fentanyl. Shelby Loring, 29, received a sentence of time served and will undergo three years of supervised release. She had previously pleaded guilty on January 17, 2023, and spent approximately 32 months incarcerated.
Court documents reveal that between January 2018 and December 2021, Loring was part of a network distributing drugs in Penobscot and Aroostook counties. She obtained drugs from a supplier, using proceeds from previous sales to fund new purchases. Her activities led to interactions with law enforcement that resulted in the confiscation of drugs, firearms, and related paraphernalia.
This case is part of a broader investigation into drug trafficking in northern Maine involving multiple defendants. To date, eleven individuals have been sentenced while ten await their sentencing hearings.
The investigation was conducted by several agencies including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Maine Drug Enforcement Agency; along with local police departments across various towns such as Orono, Bangor, Brewer, Caribou, Presque Isle and Houlton. The cooperation extended to the Maine State Attorney General’s Office and the Aroostook County District Attorney’s Office.
The prosecution falls under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) initiative which aims to target high-level criminal organizations through collaborative efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
