A Thomaston resident has admitted guilt in a federal court in Portland for unlawfully possessing a machinegun and possessing controlled substances with the intent to distribute.
Court documents reveal that Chandler Breen, aged 34, was implicated following a tip received by the Thomaston Police Department in April 2024. The tip suggested Breen was involved in drug sales behind a local business. A subsequent search of his vehicle uncovered a firearm altered with a machinegun conversion device, along with 9mm ammunition, significant cash amounts, approximately 62 grams of cocaine, about 5 grams of methamphetamine, and at least 6 grams of fentanyl.
Breen is facing potential penalties including up to ten years imprisonment, fines reaching $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release on the firearms charge. For the drug-related charge, he could face up to twenty years imprisonment, fines as high as $1 million, and a minimum of three years supervised release. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district judge who will consider U.S. Sentencing Guidelines alongside other statutory factors.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with support from the Thomaston Police Department.
