A man from Hazard, Kentucky, Herbert Allen, has been sentenced to 126 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Claria Horn Boom.

Allen's plea agreement reveals that on May 30, 2023, he knowingly possessed a kilogram of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it. Law enforcement officials obtained a search warrant for Allen’s residence based on an investigation. When they arrived, Allen was found in his vehicle and admitted to having a backpack containing a large amount of methamphetamine inside. A subsequent search revealed approximately 1,084 grams of methamphetamine, plastic baggies, and a significant amount of cash.

Under federal law, Allen is required to serve at least 85 percent of his prison sentence. Following his release, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years.

The sentencing announcement was made jointly by Carlton S. Shier IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Michael Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge at the FBI Louisville Field Office; and Phillip J. Burnett Jr., Commissioner of the Kentucky State Police.

The investigation leading to Allen's arrest was conducted by the FBI and Kentucky State Police (KSP). Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Blankenship prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
