Anthony Darnell Deberry, a 40-year-old resident of Beckley, has been sentenced to five years and ten months in prison for distributing fentanyl. This sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release.

Court documents reveal that on May 3, 2023, Deberry sold a substance containing fentanyl to a confidential informant at his home in Beckley. He admitted to this transaction and confessed to selling fentanyl on four other occasions within Raleigh County.

On July 5, 2023, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant at Deberry's residence. They discovered two 9mm handguns, ammunition, $2,000 in cash, and approximately 76.5 grams of fentanyl. Deberry acknowledged his intention to distribute the seized fentanyl.

Deberry's criminal record includes three prior convictions related to drug offenses and one for unlawful possession of weapons.

United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the sentencing and praised the efforts of the Beckley/Raleigh County Drug and Violent Crime Unit. This unit comprises officers from the West Virginia State Police, Raleigh County Sheriff's Department, and Beckley Police Department.

Chief United States District Judge Frank W. Volk handed down the sentence while Assistant United States Attorney Timothy D. Boggess prosecuted the case.
