A Box Elder man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for receiving child pornography. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Karen E. Schreier on January 24, 2025.

Taylor Bloomgren, aged 23, will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison term and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Additionally, Bloomgren is required to forfeit two Xboxes and four cellular phones and register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.

Bloomgren was indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2024 and pleaded guilty on November 8, 2024. Between 2021 and 2023, he used his phone, computer, and Xboxes to play online games on Discord where he communicated with an 11-year-old girl. These interactions led to virtual sexual activities and the exchange of explicit photographs and videos.

The case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. This program coordinates efforts among federal, state, and local agencies to prosecute offenders and rescue victims.

The investigation was conducted by the Box Elder Police Department along with the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Knox prosecuted the case.

Following sentencing, Bloomgren was remanded into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
