A convicted felon from St. Louis County has admitted to a gun charge after being caught on a video call with firearms. Bruce Donta Robinson, 28, pleaded guilty on Thursday to one felony count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
In June 2024, Robinson contacted an inmate at a detention facility in Pulaski County, Illinois via video call. During the call, he was seen with what appeared to be two semi-automatic weapons. As a convicted felon, Robinson is prohibited from possessing firearms and was also on supervised release for a prior gun crime at the time.
Following the review of the video call, the FBI obtained a court-approved search warrant for Robinson's residence in St. Louis County. Agents discovered several firearms including a loaded Polymer 80 semi-automatic pistol without a serial number and a large capacity magazine, a loaded Glock .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol with a laser attachment, and a stolen Rock River Arms AR-15 pistol with another large capacity magazine.
The charge against Robinson carries a potential penalty of up to 15 years in prison. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney J. Christian Goeke following an investigation by the FBI.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy as part of PSN focusing on building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
