U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. has sentenced Georgia R. Phillips, a 49-year-old resident of East St. Louis, Illinois, to ten years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base.

According to court records, Phillips was stopped for a traffic violation on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County last May. During the stop, officers found large quantities of controlled substances in her vehicle, including about four ounces of crack cocaine. After her arrest, Phillips confessed that she was traveling from East St. Louis to deliver the drugs to an individual in Hayti, Missouri. The two had met while serving previous sentences for drug trafficking crimes.

At her guilty plea hearing last year, Phillips admitted her intention to distribute the controlled substances. Following her prison term, she will be subject to a three-year supervised release period.

The investigation was conducted by the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Jack Koester prosecuted the case for the government.
