A Brockton man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug and firearms offenses. Shem Khattiya, 39, received his sentence from Senior District Court Judge Patti B. Saris in Boston. This decision follows Khattiya's guilty plea in October 2024 to charges of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
The investigation into Khattiya began in 2023, leading to a search of his Brockton apartment in March of the same year. Authorities recovered over 800 grams of fentanyl, multiple firearms including ghost guns and assault rifles, high-capacity magazines, ammunition, and equipment used for manufacturing drugs and firearms. It was noted that some triggers found could convert semi-automatic weapons into automatic ones.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley announced the sentencing along with Michael J. Krol, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in New England. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey E. Weinstein with assistance from various agencies including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office; Brockton Police Department; and Massachusetts State Police.
