Attorney General Ken Paxton has joined forces with Iowa and Kansas in a multistate effort, urging Costco to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices. The letter sent to the company demands a complete repeal of these policies.
This move aligns with an executive order from former President Trump, which encourages the private sector to cease what is termed as "illegal DEI discrimination and preferences." Despite warnings from the U.S. Supreme Court against race-based preferences, Costco continues to support its DEI initiatives.
"Discriminatory DEI policies are unethical, unlawful, and fundamentally un-American," stated Attorney General Paxton. He criticized Costco's stance on these practices as "reprehensible," arguing that DEI programs promote divisive ideologies rather than equality and respect for all individuals. Paxton urged Costco to end what he described as "woke policies" immediately.
The letter concludes by requesting that Costco inform Attorney General Paxton and the coalition within 30 days if there have been any changes to their DEI policies.
