Attorney General Steve Marshall has announced a guilty plea from Frank Lewis Brown, a political consultant, for theft of funds designated for charity. Brown admitted guilt to one count of theft in the first degree before Judge Greg Griffin in Montgomery County.

The charges stem from Brown's misappropriation of funds intended for a local charity. This organization aimed to support women and children affected by substance abuse but became largely inactive around 2017. Despite this, Brown secured $50,000 annually from the Montgomery County Commission between 2018 and 2023, totaling $350,000. He falsely assured the Commission that these funds would benefit the charity's mission. Instead, he diverted $246,670 for personal use.

Marshall expressed strong condemnation: “Stealing from a non-profit is a despicable betrayal of public trust. Instead of using these funds to help those suffering from addiction, Frank Lewis Brown chose to line his own pockets. This kind of corruption will not be tolerated, and my office will continue to hold accountable those who exploit charitable causes for personal gain.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Jasper B. Roberts, Jr., and Alana K. Cammack from the Special Prosecutions Division.
