A Westerly man has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison for child molestation and sexual assault. The announcement was made by Attorney General Peter F. Neronha following the sentencing at Washington County Superior Court.

On January 24, 2025, Alexander Kores, aged 39, received a sentence of 45 years with 20 years to be served at the Adult Correctional Institutions (ACI) and an additional 45 years of probation. Superior Court Justice Melanie Wilk Thunberg also issued a no-contact order between Kores and the victim. Furthermore, Kores is required to register as a sex offender, attend counseling, and will be under community supervision.

Kores pleaded nolo contendere to three counts of first-degree child molestation, one count of first-degree sexual assault, and one count of possession of a large capacity magazine on January 24.

Attorney General Neronha stated: “Every child deserves to grow up in a safe and nurturing environment, but unfortunately that’s not always the case.” He praised the victim's bravery in coming forward after enduring significant trauma over several years. Neronha expressed hope that holding perpetrators accountable would empower other victims to seek justice. He also thanked the Rhode Island State Police for their work on this challenging case.

The prosecution was prepared to demonstrate that between 2011 and 2021, Kores assaulted a female victim known to him multiple times in Richmond and Charlestown.

The investigation and prosecution were led by Assistant Attorney General Mark Trovato and Special Assistant Attorney General Caitlin Isherwood from the Office of the Attorney General, along with Detectives Thomas Bruso and Brendan Morgan from the Rhode Island State Police.
