A Kansas man has been sentenced to six years in prison for intentionally driving his vehicle into a federal law enforcement officer. The incident occurred as officers attempted to apprehend the passenger of the vehicle.

Court documents reveal that Diego Almaguer, 19, from Kansas City, Kansas, admitted guilt to one count of forcible assault on a federal officer. The event took place on February 23, 2024, when members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force were executing an arrest warrant at a residence in Kansas City, Kansas.

The officers observed Almaguer and the individual they sought entering a vehicle parked in the driveway with Almaguer behind the wheel. As law enforcement vehicles approached with emergency lights activated, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officer stood in front of Almaguer's car wearing a ballistic vest marked "police." Almaguer then drove into the officer, causing him to be thrown over the windshield before falling to the ground.

Following this, Almaguer led authorities on a high-speed pursuit across state lines into Missouri. The chase reached speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour before both individuals were apprehended in Kansas City, Missouri. They were found hiding in an outbuilding behind a house.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), while Assistant U.S. Attorney Faiza Alhambra prosecuted the case.
