Shook Pro Bono Director and Partner Scot Fishman has been elected to serve as co-president of the Association of Pro Bono Counsel (APBCo). The APBCo is a membership organization of over 400 attorneys and practice group managers who run pro bono practices with a mission to maximize access to justice through the delivery of pro bono legal services.
“Increasing access to justice has always been a goal as a law firm pro bono leader,” said Fishman, who is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. “The opportunity to lead an organization that helps guide and provide resources to other pro bono attorneys around the world is very fulfilling. Throughout my nearly twenty years in this industry, I benefited greatly from the same network of pro bono professionals, and I am excited to pay it forward through this role.”
Fishman oversees Shook’s pro bono program, chairs the firm’s pro bono committee and leads the public interest advocacy efforts in all offices. Under Fishman’s leadership, the firm experienced a 34% increase in average pro bono hours per lawyer and a 65% increase in participation. Shook attorneys assist low-income individuals, underserved communities and nonprofit organizations with both interesting and important matters that span a wide range of substantive legal issues.
Fishman’s term as co-president began January 1, 2025, while also serving on the board of directors for three years.
