A Boston man, Nicholas Carle, has been sentenced in federal court for possessing ammunition as a felon. U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns sentenced Carle, aged 36, to 42 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Carle had pleaded guilty in September 2024 after being charged in April 2023.

The charges stem from an incident on December 18, 2022, when Carle fled law enforcement during a traffic stop, leaving behind his coat. Inside the coat was a loaded Smith & Wesson .357 revolver with six rounds of ammunition. Additionally, approximately 2.5 pounds of a substance resembling marijuana were found in the vehicle's trunk.

Carle's prior felony convictions include possession of a firearm without a permit, which legally prohibits him from owning firearms or ammunition.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives' Boston Field Division. The Massachusetts State Police provided valuable assistance in the case prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys William F. Abely and Julien M. Mundele.
