Brian Mills, a 39-year-old resident of Dannemora, New York, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for providing a firearm to a felon. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Erin Keegan, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) at the Buffalo Field Office.
Mills admitted to trading several firearms and accessories with Dustin J. Manor during the summer of 2022. The items included a New England Firearms Company Model Pardner-SP1 .410-gauge shotgun, an Armalite rifle, ammunition, an ammunition magazine, and two body armor vests. This exchange took place at Manor's apartment in Plattsburgh, New York. Mills was aware that Manor was a felon at the time.
On October 20, 2022, the Plattsburgh Police Department seized various items from Manor’s apartment following a domestic incident. These items included the shotgun traded by Mills along with one .44 magnum round of ammunition, additional shotgun rounds, and RTS Tactical Level IV ceramic body armor.
Manor was federally prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to prior drug felony convictions from 2014 that resulted in a five-year state prison sentence.
Mills had been working as a corrections officer at Clinton Correctional Facility but resigned after his arrest.
Senior United States District Judge Lawrence E. Kahn also imposed a two-year term of supervised release for Mills after his prison term ends.
In August, Manor received a sentence of 57 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for possession of the .410-gauge shotgun and ammunition as a felon.
The case was investigated by HSI and the Plattsburgh Police Department with Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas G. Collyer prosecuting.
