A Pittsburgh man has been sentenced to over 12 years in federal prison for cocaine trafficking and violating supervised release terms. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced that Dirk Barfield Jr., aged 38, received a sentence of 153 months from United States District Judge Robert J. Colville.

The court heard that Barfield was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Pennsylvania State Police in September 2022. The investigation found that he used his Maserati to distribute cocaine from a Pittsburgh residence. On September 13, 2022, law enforcement executed search warrants at his home. When officers announced their presence, Barfield threw bags containing suspected drugs out of a second-floor window. Authorities recovered these bags and entered the residence where Barfield admitted to discarding approximately two ounces of cocaine and one ounce of crack.

At the time of this offense, Barfield was on federal supervised release following a previous drug trafficking conviction in the Western District of Pennsylvania for which he served 151 months in prison. During his supervised release, he was involved in an attempted traffic stop incident where he drove over a state trooper's foot and struck a pedestrian who needed surgery for broken bones.

Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna prosecuted the case for the government. Acting U.S. Attorney Rivetti praised the efforts of the Pennsylvania State Police and FBI for their roles in bringing about this successful prosecution.
