U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the sentencing of Travis Jordan, a 39-year-old resident of Orleans Parish, for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing took place on January 17, 2025, and is pursuant to violations under Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(8).
Jordan received a sentence of 21 months in prison. Following his imprisonment, he will be subject to three years of supervised release. Additionally, he must pay a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
Court documents reveal that the incident occurred on February 18, 2024. Jordan was denied entry into the Saint Bar located in Orleans Parish due to intoxication. This led to an altercation with an employee during which a firearm fell from Jordan's waistband. As he attempted to retrieve it, other employees secured the weapon and restrained him until law enforcement arrived.
This case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program—a collaborative federal, state, and local initiative focused on reducing violent crime. U.S. Attorney Evans commended the efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives alongside the New Orleans Police Department in handling this case. The prosecution was carried out by Assistant United States Attorney Troy Bell from the Violent Crime Unit.
