Attorney General Nick Brown has issued a statement regarding the recent executive orders signed by President Trump, expressing concern over their potential impact on residents of Washington. According to Brown, these actions could significantly harm thousands of individuals in the state.

Brown stated, "President Trump today signed a host of gravely concerning executive orders that pose significant harm to thousands of Washingtonians. My staff and I are thoroughly assessing these directives on their legal and constitutional merits."

He noted that while only a few orders have been seen so far, there is much to be concerned about. The Attorney General's Office has been preparing for this day over the past year, collaborating with colleagues from other states and studying relevant documents like Project 2025.

"We are prepared and committed to using the full power of the Attorney General’s Office to enforce Washington’s laws, to protect people’s rights, and to keep Washingtonians safe," Brown said. He emphasized that they will uphold the law and fight for shared values when necessary.

Brown also mentioned specific concerns about some orders, such as those targeting birthright citizenship, which he described as unconstitutional and un-American. He assured residents that his team would provide further updates in the coming days regarding potential litigation against these executive actions.

For now, Brown reassured Washingtonians: "We will do everything in our power to defend them and our state’s shared values against illegal acts by the Trump Administration."

The Attorney General's Office serves as Washington's largest law firm, providing legal representation across various state agencies while enforcing consumer protection, civil rights, and environmental laws. It also prosecutes elder abuse cases and handles Medicaid fraud along with sexually violent predator cases in most counties within the state.
