California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley N. Weber have confirmed that three former members of the Orosi Public Utilities District (OPUD) Board of Directors have resigned from their positions. Reynaldo Rivas, Maria C. Gonzalez, and Johnny Sandoval ran for reelection in the November 5, 2024 election but were not successful.
Following a letter from Attorney General Bonta and Secretary of State Weber reminding them to vacate their offices, the three individuals agreed to step down by the deadline set by the officials.
“From the White House to a local community water board, the will of the people must always be respected. I appreciate that Mr. Rivas, Ms. Gonzalez, and Mr. Sandoval decided to do the right thing and step down from their positions on the OPUD Board,” said Attorney General Rob Bonta. “Now, the duly elected members will be seated, and they can work on addressing the community’s pressing issues. At the California Department of Justice, we will continue to protect the integrity of our elections process.”
“I am pleased that the rule of law has prevailed and that voters of the Orosi Public Utility District will be heard,” said Secretary of State Weber.
