The United States Attorney's Office has released its 2024 annual report, detailing efforts to rebuild community trust, protect civil rights, and address violent crime. United States Attorney Dawn N. Ison highlighted the achievements of the office in a 62-page document that outlines prosecutions, community outreach, trials, convictions, systemic changes, and community impact.
Dawn N. Ison stated, “Our office is immensely proud of the work we did in 2024, reducing crime, protecting civil rights, defending our borders, and protecting the federal treasury. This work could not have been accomplished without partnerships across the Eastern District of Michigan. Our dedicated team of lawyers and support staff worked with local, state, and federal law enforcement and community partners to improve the lives of the residents of Eastern Michigan. This annual report represents the highlights of this work because it would be impossible to detail everything that this incredible team accomplished in 2024.”
The report is available for public review and focuses on the diverse Eastern District of Michigan. The Detroit, Flint, and Bay City offices achieved significant accomplishments alongside partner agencies.
In fiscal year 2024, $45 million was collected through criminal and civil actions; $32 million from criminal actions and $12 million from civil actions were returned to victims and taxpayers.
Efforts targeting violent offenders led to numerous federal convictions. Notably, a life sentence was given to a leader of the Seven Mile Bloods Gang in Detroit. RICO convictions were secured for three senior members of Almighty Vice Lords Nation with sentences ranging from 60 to 70 years.
A landmark settlement was reached with Wayne County Jail over allegations regarding services for inmates with disabilities.
A guilty plea was obtained from a former Chief Financial Officer who embezzled over $40 million from Detroit Riverfront Conservancy; restitution agreements require him to pay at least $44 million.
Public corruption cases included guilty pleas from Inkster's Mayor on bribery charges and Taylor's Mayor sentenced for conspiracy involving bribes.
Five Chinese nationals faced charges related to photographing military equipment during an exercise at Camp Grayling.
A 33-year sentence was imposed for a shooting incident on Isabella Reservation resulting in one death and severe injury to a child.
Seven individuals were convicted under FACE Act violations for obstructing access to a reproductive health clinic.
Despite these successes in 2024 as detailed in their Annual Report—aimed at maintaining safety while ensuring fairness—the U.S Attorney’s Office acknowledges ongoing challenges ahead but remains
