The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) is currently investigating an officer-involved death in the Township of Newbold, Oneida County. The incident occurred on the evening of January 17, 2025.
Around 9:15 p.m., a deputy from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle on Highway 47 at Northwestern Avenue. The driver did not comply, leading to a pursuit. The chase concluded when the pursued vehicle veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another car near State Highway 47 and Bridge Road. The second vehicle had six passengers who were all injured in the crash. Emergency medical services were called, and law enforcement performed life-saving measures on the driver of the first vehicle, but they were pronounced dead at the scene. The injured individuals were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
Following standard procedure, the involved officer will be placed on administrative leave. It was confirmed that their squad camera was recording during the incident.
The DCI is overseeing this investigation with support from a DCI Crime Response Specialist and the Wisconsin State Patrol. All law enforcement personnel involved are cooperating fully with DCI as they continue to gather evidence and establish facts surrounding this event. Once completed, investigative reports will be submitted to the Oneida County District Attorney’s office.
