United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell has announced the indictment of a man from Kyle, South Dakota, by a federal grand jury on multiple charges, including assault and sexual abuse. Vinnie Sonny Makes Good, 36, faces charges of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, Assault Resulting in Substantial Bodily Injury to a Spouse, Intimate Partner or Dating Partner, Sexual Abuse, and Aggravated Sexual Abuse.

Makes Good was indicted in December 2024 and pleaded not guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daneta L. Wollmann on January 8, 2025. The potential penalties for conviction include life imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, supervised release for life, and a $100 fee to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be imposed.

The allegations involve three separate incidents between March 23 and October 12, 2023, where Makes Good allegedly assaulted his intimate dating partner causing serious bodily injury. Additionally, he is accused of sexually assaulting another woman on February 4, 2024.

The charges remain accusations at this stage and Makes Good is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The investigation is being handled by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety with Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Poppen leading the prosecution.

Currently held by the U.S. Marshals Service pending trial, Makes Good's court date is set for March 18, 2025.
