The U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota has issued a warning regarding scams targeting potential jurors. Scammers have been contacting individuals, claiming they failed to appear for jury service. These calls involve impersonation of law enforcement agencies and use specific names of local judges. The callers threaten arrest unless court fines are paid for the alleged failure to appear.

The court emphasizes that neither federal courts nor law enforcement agencies will call individuals to threaten them or demand immediate payment over the phone or through money wire services for fines related to jury summons.

Individuals are advised to be cautious of any caller demanding immediate payment or threatening arrest. It is recommended to hang up and verify such claims by contacting the Clerk of Court’s office directly.

If contacted with demands for payment due to missing jury service, individuals should:

- Refrain from providing credit card information or making payments.

- Avoid sharing personal information, such as social security numbers.

- Report the incident to local law enforcement.

- Contact the Clerk of Court’s office at 701-530-2300 with any questions.
