Cherokee County resident pleads guilty to attempted arson

The United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma has reported that Sheena Grasshopper, a 41-year-old resident of Cherokee County, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to one count of attempted arson of a dwelling in Indian Country.

According to the indictment, on July 31, 2023, Grasshopper attempted to set fire to a building, endangering a person's life. The incident took place in Cherokee County, within the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation Reservation.

The charge resulted from an investigation conducted by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department, the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Jason A. Robertson accepted Grasshopper's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. He ordered a presentence investigation report and stated that Grasshopper would remain in custody with the United States Marshals Service until sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick Flanigan and Edith Singer are representing the United States in this case.
