California Attorney General Rob Bonta expressed support for Governor Gavin Newsom's recent executive order, which prohibits evictions for those providing shelter to individuals affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
In a statement released today, Bonta emphasized the importance of protecting residents during these challenging times. "These are extraordinary times. If you provide shelter to someone who has been impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires, you should not be evicted," he stated. He further noted that allowing such evictions would be "flat-out wrong" and reaffirmed his alignment with the Governor's efforts to safeguard communities in crisis.
The executive order aims to ensure that those offering refuge are not penalized during this period of emergency.
