A Duval County resident has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the sexual exploitation of a child, as announced by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Oscar Luis Saenz Jr., aged 32, pleaded guilty on September 26, 2024.

U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos handed down the sentence of 360 months in federal prison to Saenz. During the hearing, testimony from the victim's mother highlighted the severe impact of Saenz's actions on their family. The court emphasized the seriousness of the offense and the victim's age when determining the sentence.

Saenz is also required to pay $15,000 in restitution to a known victim and will be on supervised release for life after his prison term ends. This includes complying with restrictions on access to children and the internet and registering as a sex offender.

The investigation began when authorities discovered Saenz's involvement in chat rooms discussing child sexual assault material (CSAM). On August 28, 2023, he sent a video of himself abusing a young child, leading to his immediate arrest.

Upon arrest, Saenz admitted to producing the video and was found with approximately 100 files depicting CSAM on his phone. He will remain in custody until transferred to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.

The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations with assistance from the Duval County Sheriff's Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Overman prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood (PSC), an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
