Stilwell man pleads guilty to possessing stolen firearm

Robey Lee Butler, a 35-year-old resident of Stilwell, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to possessing a stolen firearm. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the plea on January 13, 2025.

According to the indictment, Butler was found in possession of a stolen semi-automatic rifle on November 7, 2023. It was alleged that he had reasonable cause to believe the firearm was stolen.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office. The Honorable D. Edward Snow, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted Butler's plea and ordered a presentence investigation report. Until sentencing, Butler will remain in custody under the United States Marshals Service.

The prosecution team included Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jarrod Leaman, Lewis Matthew Reagan, and T. Cameron McEwen.
