A Farmville man has been sentenced to over 13 years in prison for illegal firearm possession. Pierre Redd, 32, was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and received a sentence of 13 years and four months.
Court documents reveal that on October 31, 2023, an officer from the Richmond Police Department found Redd asleep at the wheel of a vehicle stopped at an intersection in Richmond. The car was still in drive, with a loaded handgun visible between Redd's legs and a bag containing 15.3 grams of cocaine in his hand.
The officer removed the weapon and drugs before waking Redd and instructing him to put the car in park. When Redd refused to comply, the officer placed a handcuff on his left wrist. However, Redd managed to put the car back into drive and sped away.
A pursuit ensued as the officer followed with lights and siren activated. During his attempt to escape, Redd ignored stop signs and drove on the wrong side of the road. He eventually stopped at an apartment complex but failed to park his vehicle properly before fleeing on foot. The officer caught up with him after a chase.
At the time of this incident, Redd had multiple prior felony convictions including attempted malicious wounding, reckless handling of a firearm, receiving a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault, forgery of public records, and possession of heroin. As someone with previous felony convictions, it is illegal for him to possess firearms or ammunition.
