North Carolina man receives two-year sentence for firearm possession

Robert Hamlett, a 49-year-old resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for the unlawful possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Court documents and statements revealed that Hamlett was found with a stolen firearm during a traffic stop on an interstate highway in Martinsburg. Due to previous felony drug and firearms convictions, Hamlett is prohibited from possessing firearms.

Following his prison term, Hamlett will be under supervised release for three years.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberley Crockett. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. U.S. District Court Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the proceedings.
