U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves | U.S. Department of Justice

Clarence Minor, a 30-year-old resident of Washington D.C., has been sentenced to 46 months in federal prison. This follows his guilty plea for unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly also mandated that Minor serve three years on supervised release post-incarceration.

The sentencing was made public by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves, ATF Special Agent in Charge Anthony Spotswood from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives' Washington Field Division, and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

Minor's guilty plea was entered on May 8, 2024. Court documents reveal that on June 17, 2023, a citizen reported seeing an individual pull a handgun from his backpack and place it in his waistband. The caller provided detailed information about the suspect's appearance and location to the authorities.

Within minutes, MPD officers identified Minor based on the description provided and conducted a lawful stop. During this encounter, they found him carrying a Glock19 semi-automatic handgun loaded with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in a magazine designed for 31 rounds capacity.

At the time of his arrest, Minor was under supervised release due to a prior gun conviction in D.C. Superior Court. He had only been out for four months before being apprehended again.

This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative and involved investigations by both MPD and ATF officials. Assistant U.S. Attorney James B. Nelson prosecuted the matter.
